MILLBORO, Va. – Cooking enthusiasts are invited to register for the 9th annual Campsite Cook-off at Douthat State Park. This unique 21-team competition requires skills and creativity.
Competitors won’t know the type of meat they’ll have to cook until Friday, Sept. 27. Each team typically receives four different meats, which can range from beef brisket and pork belly to catfish and whole turkeys. They must prepare and cook the meat for guests to taste on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The cost to register a team of up to six people is $200. This fee includes all meats, paper goods for serving samples and a campsite. Seasonings and sauces are not provided.
For spectators, entry to the tasting event on Sept. 28 is $15 per person, which includes samples from the 21 teams. Children ages 10 and under receive free entry. Live music, craft artisans and food vendors will be on site.
Anyone interested in competing in the Campsite Cook-off at Douthat can contact the park at 540-862-8114. For more information about the event, please click here (www.virginiastateparks.gov/event?id=2024-02-22-11-05-55-288734-9ke).
