HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Parks has named Justin Rexrode park manager of the Future State Park at Hayfields in Highland County. He’ll help guide the roughly 1,000-acre park through the initial development and eventual opening.

Rexrode is a Churchville, Virginia, native and holds a degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University. He started his ranger career nearly 15 years ago with Tennessee State Parks, where he served in various positions and completed the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy.

In 2020, Rexrode joined Virginia State Parks as chief ranger at Clinch River. Two years later, he was promoted to assistant park manager at James River and served in that role until his promotion to park manager of the Future State Park at Hayfields. Rexrode transitioned to his new position in August.

“I am both thankful and blessed to begin this exciting opportunity to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia and its people,” said Rexrode. “I am privileged to be trusted in building a park so close to where I grew up. I cannot wait to see Hayfields take its place among the great state parks we serve and protect.”

In addition to a park manager for the Future State Park at Hayfields, the General Assembly approved funding to hire a park ranger, chief park ranger and office manager.
