Join Natural Heritage Field Zoologist Ellison Orcutt for a walk at the Varina Land Lab to introduce youth to field zoology. Participants will learn about the animals of Virginia and some of the techniques to survey for them. The focus will be on entomology and ornithology, including primary target groups of bees, butterflies, dragonflies, moths, and birds, among others.
An adult must accompany children on the walk. Walk is best for children ages 5-17. Expect to walk about 2 miles through forest and field trails. Reach out with questions.
Meet at the entrance #2 parking lot by 9am. Arriving 5-10 minutes early is recommended. The Varina Land Lab is in eastern Henrico County, about 25 minutes east of downtown Richmond. For more information, visit their website.
The rain date is Sunday, June 21st. All other details remain the same. If heavy to moderate rain is likely the walk will be moved to the rain date. Participants will be notified, so including contact information with registration is important. Contact Ellison.Orcutt@dcr.virginia.gov with questions.
