Ready to learn the ins and outs of kayaking? We're teaching a course on boating safety May 16 through May 18, with a new skill available each day. Enjoy an exciting morning with an interpreter as we paddle around the lake and learn valuable paddling skills that can make your time in nature much more thrilling. Even though this is part of our Kids to Parks Day programming, it is open to all ages.

Children must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult on the program. Spots are limited and are first come, first serve. Pre-registration is required at the Discovery Center or by calling 276-781-7400 by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16.

About National Kids to Parks Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Kids to Parks Day on the third Saturday in May by offering a variety of fun, family-friendly activities, from nature scavenger hunts and ranger-led hikes to fishing clinics and flora and fauna wagon rides. This annual event encourages kids to explore the outdoors while learning about wildlife and engaging in hands-on environmental education.
