As Colorado continues to grow, strategic land use planning will be essential to build community resilience. The 2018 webinar series focuses on how local communities can reduce their risk and vulnerability by integrating hazard risk reduction strategies into land use planning. The webinars will provide detailed, Colorado-specific tools, resources and information about how to assess a community's risk level to hazards and how to implement numerous land use planning tools and strategies for reducing a communitiy's risk. Each webinar will explore successful implementation of the land use planning tools and strategies described in the Planning for Hazards: Land Use Solutions for Colorado Guide. Reducing Colorado's Risk to Geologic and Soil Hazards
Geologic hazards impact many Colorado communities, but are you planning for this type of hazard? How do you assess and mitigate your community’s risk to hazards like landslides, rock falls, and debris flows? What land use tools and resources are available to planners looking to take action? This webinar will provide planners the opportunity to learn about geologic and soil hazard mitigation in Colorado, services available for local planners, and the Colorado Geological Survey’s Land Use Review Program and process. Participants will also hear from a local government case study about efforts to plan for geologic risk, including, the development and adoption of a recent landslide ordinance.
