The NHMA Planning Committee is preparing to host a webinar which will feature French Wetmore discussing CRS and Mitigation Planning on Thursday, May 24th, 2018 @ 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. More information on how to register for this webinar will be posted as it is made available.
Description:
Mitigation planning regulation and Community Rating System (CRS) credit criteria were created for different purposes, but have the same objective: to help communities reduce threats and losses caused by floods and other natural hazards. The two programs can reinforce each other at the local level. However, they are typically administered by different offices and follow different rules and requirements. This can lead to planning efforts that are not well coordinated with CRS credit criteria, resulting in communities missing opportunities to use their local mitigation plan to reduce flood insurance costs for residents.
This webinar is intended to help community officials better coordinate these two programs. It will help those responsible for mitigation plans in including CRS creditable aspects in the planning process.
Presenter:
French Wetmore, CFM has been a consultant to FEMA and the Community Rating System since the program was first designed in 1988. Prior to consulting, French was the Chief of Local Floodplain Programs for the Illinois Division of Water Resources and State Flood Insurance Coordinator. Before his state work, he was a city administrator. French's consulting projects have included assisting communities with their floodplain management programs, preparing mitigation plans, and helping administer, evaluate, and improve the Community Rating System.
