Description:
This 3-day course provides an organized training opportunity for local floodplain administrators, building officials, code officials, and builders or contractors that work in the special flood hazard area. This course will focus on coastal construction including identifying hazards, regulatory requirements, siting, wind/flood considerations, foundations, etc. This course will touch on residential and nonresidential development, as well as substantial damages. This course was developed specifically for this offering in Hampton Roads and pulls together information from other FEMA trainings and publications.
After the course on Tuesday, October 8, the City of Norfolk will provide a 30 minute walking tour at 5:30pm to see nearby examples of recurrent flooding, historic preservation, and a successful FMA home elevation.

Parking at the training facility (garage underground on-site) is $5/day per vehicle (no in-and-out privileges during the day).
The City of Norfolk also has park-and-ride lots further out from downtown, where drivers may park and ride Light Rail (Monticello Station right outside Scope). An all-day transit pass is $4.50/day.
