This National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Training for Floodplain Administrators: Best Practices for Meeting
Day-to-Day Challenges training course is a virtual and interactive instruction that covers the following 8 topics in
detail:
• Introduction to the NFIP and Risk Rating 2.0
• Accessing and Using Flood Hazard Data
• Administering Floodplain Ordinances
• Permitting Process – Overview & Application Review
• Ordinance Enforcement
• Pre-and Post-Disaster Considerations
• Changing Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports
• Useful Resources and the Community Rating System (CRS)
This training will inform and educate community representatives involved in the administration and enforcement of
local land use and permitting processes aimed at flood risk reduction and NFIP compliance, highlighting specific
topics critical to effective NFIP implementation.
Target Audience:
Local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance will be given priority, but
others are welcome to participate including zoning officials, elected leaders, surveyors, engineers, and solicitors.
