Agnes at 50: Learn from the Past. Prepare for the Future.
Tuesday June 21, 11:00am - 12:00pm via Zoom
Register on Eventbrite.
It’s been half a century since Hurricane Agnes caused widespread devastation in our region but there are still many lessons to be learned from the impacts of the storm and the emergency response. During this panel you’ll hear from David DeCosmo, a former WYOU news broadcaster who was appointed to be the Luzerne County Civil Defense Public Information Officer during the storm, and his experience working as part of the response efforts and communicating with the public. Mike Bilder will accompany David to provide insight into the immediate impacts of Agnes and how this storm compares to others we have experienced more recently. We all have a role to play as we prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, and reflecting on Agnes now will help us be more prepared for the future.
Panelists:
Melissa Wiehenstroer, External Affairs, FEMA Region 3 (moderator)
David DeCosmo, Retired radio/television news reporter
Mike Bilder, Hurricane Program Manager, FEMA Region 3
