Get Involved in the Virginia Flood Protection Master Plan

Public comment

A draft of the VFPMP will be posted to the Virginia Regulatory Town Hall for a 30-day public comment period in Fall of 2026. The final VFPMP will be released in Summer of 2027 following the review and consideration of public comments.

 

Public webinar

During the public comment period, DCR will host a public webinar. In this webinar, attendees will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the VFPMP’s purpose and goals, as well as findings and outcomes.
  • Hear directly from DCR and its consultants about strategies for building statewide flood resilience.
  • Participate in a Q&A session to ask questions about the plan.

The public webinar will be posted on the DCR Dam Safety and Floodplain Management Calendar. To receive updates about the public webinar and additional announcements regarding the status of the VFPMP, sign up for the quarterly newsletter.

Completed activities

Public webinar

To inform the development of the Virginia Flood Protection Master Plan (VFPMP), DCR hosted a public webinar on April 29, 2025. During this webinar, the plan was discussed and feedback was solicited from the public.  The slide presentation and a recorded video of the meeting are available for viewing.

Public survey

DCR hosted an online public survey from April to October 2025 to solicit feedback from residents of the Commonwealth. A summary report is available for reference.

Public events

From April to October 2025, DCR representatives participated in in five public events to offer information about the VFPMP, answer questions and provide an opportunity for individuals to fill out in-person surveys. The results of the in-person survey are included in the public summary report linked above.
