The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park is now accepting entries for the “Stitch in Time” Quilt Show.

The Eta Aquarids is an above average meteor shower capable of producing up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak.

It's that time of the year to not only celebrate birds, but our wonderful volunteers, especially Randy Smith who gave a lot of himself to nature, to birds, and to Hungry Mother State Park.  Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. – Owl Prowl Set out on a night time adventure with Hungry Mother interpreters as we explore how owls thrive in the dark.

Fancy a spot of volunteering this Spring?    Saturday, April 25th : Waterway Cleanups Spring Cleanup on the Aquia Creek  Join this Stafford-based non-profit as they help keep Aquia Creek clean of trash and debris via kayaks in their Spring cleanup at the park.

This is a “casting” call for miniatures enthusiasts and historic craft fans!

Enjoy a naturalist-led hike learning all about what's blooming and growing around you.  This easy hike will take visitors through our park's deciduous woodlands along the river granting an opportunity to see some of the New River’s native wildflowers and trees in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet! Please wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring plenty of water and snacks.

For the month of May, homeschool students will learn about invasive species in our area, how to identify them, the damage they do to our native ecosystem, and how to properly remove them.  There are no homeschool programs on May 13th, 18th, or 20th.

Every Monday evening from May to September you can find local fresh produce, baked goods, honey, jams and jellies, soap, and local artisan crafters, as well as food vendors, here at Fairy Stone State Park.

The Friends group is a dedicated volunteer organization made up of community members who actively support the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park.

Join Leesylvania State Park rangers at Bushey Point Trailhead for a guided hike and discussion on wetlands, their ecology, and their vital importance in maintaining a balanced, healthy ecosystem.  Meet at the entrance to Bushey Point Trail on the south side of Boat Launch Parking Lot 1 for the approximately 1.5 mile hike. This trail is rated as easy in skill level; please dress for the weather, wear sturdy closed-toe footwear, and consider bringing water.  For questions, contact the Visitor Center at leesylvaniavc@dcr.virginia.gov or 703-583-6904.  Register Here.
