Fall Foliage Report for Coastal Virginia State Parks
Foliage report for Oct. 31, 2024.
Our parks in the coastal region are reaching peak fall foliage, with vibrant reds, yellows and oranges taking over the landscapes. This is a unique time to experience autumn’s beauty by the water, where the fall colors reflect in rivers and coastal bays.
Enjoy hiking, biking, bird watching or water adventures and experience the fall season along the coast while capturing some amazing photos. Don’t forget to share your fall photos using the hashtags #VaStateParks and #FallinVirginia to be part of the online conversation.
Machicomoco State Park - 11/5/2024
Color changes continue all over the park, with nearly all deciduous trees continuing to deepen into a bright red or yellow tone. Peak season is upon us at Machicomoco State Park. This week will be a great time to visit.
Best place to view: The interpretive area parking and the Interpretive (Oyster) Trail towards the boardwalk and the Loop (Moccasin) Trail and the boat slips.
Why visit this week: Will you take up the bow and try your hand at the sport of archery? On Nov. 9, the Let's Go Adventures staff will show you the basics of archery including finding your draw length, proper safety, shooting techniques, and more.
Come out to the park and enjoy the fresh air while building memories together with your favorite wee people on Nov. 9! You will read with a park ranger, share in the adventures of great stories, and learn more about nature together.
Join us on an evening adventure for our Owl Prowl program on Nov. 16. Learn how owls are such great predators, dissect an owl pellet and go on a short hike to try to spot them soaring above!
