Virginia Flood Risk Information System (VFRIS) is a mapping platform developed in collaboration between the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and DCR’s Floodplain Management Program. By pulling together information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Fish and Wildlife Service, Esri GIS and the Virginia Geographic Information System, VFRIS allows users to quickly locate and see if property is within the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).
DCR’s VFRIS training will introduce participants to Virginia’s web-based mapping tool that communities, realtors, developers, and homeowners can use to understand a property’s flood risk. This training will include an overview of what VFRIS is, how it was developed, and a step-by-step tour demonstrating how to use the tool. Participants will also learn how to find and use the Risk MAP non-regulatory products on VFRIS.
Target Audience: Local, regional, and state officials, as well as private industry professionals (i.e. realtors, surveyors, insurance agents, etc.)
