The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) participating communities. The goals of the CRS are to reduce flood damages to insurable property, strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP, and encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management.
DCR’s training course will focus on the CRS program and benefits it provides to participating communities. Course participants will learn the basics of the CRS program, including how to join CRS, eligible activities, and an overview of CRS in Virginia. The majority of this training will focus on Risk MAP products, the CRS activities they are eligible for, and how localities can use these new products to reduce flood risk. A CRS “What-If” scenario will be provided to participants for their specific community to compare the insurance discounts each CRS class offers.
Target Audience: Local, regional, and state officials
